Platform for Political Activism: Voices From the Margins
Abstract
prominent Lebanese newspaper, has historically served as a platform for political activism, particularly for marginalized voices in Lebanese society. This research explores the role of Al-Safiir in facilitating political discourse among underrepresented groups, including women, youth, and various ethnic and religious minorities. Through a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative content analysis and quantitative surveys, this study examines how Al-Safiir has shaped public perceptions and contributed to grassroots movements advocating for social change. The findings reveal that the newspaper has not only provided a space for alternative viewpoints but also fostered a sense of agency among marginalized communities. By analyzing editorial content and reader engagement, this research highlights the newspaper's unique position within the broader context of Lebanese media, particularly in the wake of political upheaval and social unrest. The implications of this study extend beyond Lebanon, offering insights into the intersection of media, activism, and identity in the Arab world. Ultimately, Al-Safiir’s commitment to amplifying marginalized voices underscores the vital role of journalism in promoting democratic discourse and social justice.
