Abstract

The paper deals with lexical items and grammatical structures used to denote the notions of 'cause' and 'reason'. This opposition lies within 'fact-representation' dichotomy, i.e. cause implies outward, objective force while reason is an inward, personal basis for a statement. Both causative by nature, these semantic entities differ in communicative aspect and find different means of expression in natural languages.
